The summer transfer window started on June 1 and has got temporarily frozen due to the Club World Cup, and Tottenham Hotspur have already fallen behind their Premier League rivals in terms of doing business for next season.
The North Londoners managed to end the 2024/25 campaign on a high by winning the Europa League against all odds, but that has still not helped them in convincing potential targets to join the club thus far. Other than confirming the permanent capture of Kevin Danso from RC Lens, the club is yet to make any signings.
This is perhaps down to the fact that the appointment of Thomas Frank as the new head coach is yet to be confirmed. Talks have progressed in recent days and the Dane is close to succeeding Ange Postecoglou at the helm, but in sorting out the managerial situation, Spurs have lost out on one of their summer targets.

Turkish champions Galatasaray have outmanoeuvred Spurs and several other suitors to sign Leroy Sane on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.
The future of Leroy Sane has been a talking point at Bayern Munich in recent months. After it lately looked like the German winger would extend his stay at Bavaria beyond June 30—when his contract deal expire, a change in the player’s agency led to a seismic change in stance.
Sane and his agents rejected the package offered by Bayern Munich in May, opening the door for Tottenham and other clubs to keep tabs on a potential free transfer. However, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed earlier this week that Galatasaray had “invested the most” in the 29-year-old in comparison to other clubs such as Al-Hilal and Arsenal. This led to the player rejecting all offers from Bayern and giving thumbs up to the project of the Turkish club.
And on Thursday, credible journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Galatasaray’s signing of Sane on a potential free transfer from Bayern. On his official X account, he posted a picture of the left-footed forward with a Galatasaray scarf.
The Sane development comes as a blow for Tottenham, who remain keen on adding a forward to their ranks this summer. The substandard displays from the likes of Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Timo Werner last season has seen the Hotspur Way chiefs make the signing of a forward among the top priorities.
Amid the uncertain futures of Son and Richarlison, coupled with Werner’s return to RB Leipzig after the expiry of his loan spell, Spurs are in need of forwards, and they are going to have to find another target and make sure they don’t wallow over missing Sane for too long.
