Tottenham must fork out £60m to land the new Paul Gascoigne

Southampton are unlikely to let Tyler Dibling leave for a paltry fee despite their relegation from the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur have adapted to a transfer policy of bringing in highly-regarded prospects who have bags of potential, and Daniel Levy’s team has done brilliantly to recognise such talents and try to aid their development at the club.

The fans have witnessed multiple young talents like Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert moving to N17 last year and taking strides under Ange Postecoglou’s tutelage, and going into the new summer window, the club chairman will want to stick to that policy and rebuild the squad.

One such talent who has been linked with a move to Spurs since a while now is Southampton’s Tyler Dibling. The Englishman has enjoyed his breakthrough season in the Premier League, but his contributions were not enough to help Southampton maintain their top-flight status. The Saints have been relegated after enduring their worst-ever top-flight campaign, and they could lose some of their key players in the summer.

Tyler Dibling appears to be one of them, with the teenager a highly coveted commodity heading into the summer transfer window. The Exeter-born sensation has been tracked by several clubs from England and Europe, but luring him away from St. Mary’s Stadium would not be straightforward.

According to a report from TEAMTalk, Southampton are seeking closer to £60m fee to sell Dibling amid interest from Tottenham. The Saints are in no rush to sell their highly-rated talent and view him as a key to their long-term project. Having staved off interest in the January transfer window, they will only listen to offers that include ‘significant add-ons and future sell-on clause’.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen on the England under-21 international, who has already drawn comparisons with Spurs great Paul Gascoigne. Dibling is under contract until 2027 (Transfermarkt) and wants to test himself at the highest level, but he is unlikely to force a move away from Southampton.

Levy perhaps have been looking to use the fact that the versatile forward has only two years remaining on his contract to Tottenham’s advantage, although it looks like the Saints are unlikely to drop their demands despite suffering relegation. This means the North Londoners could still be priced out of a move for Dibling if they feel they are not convinced that they should pay closer to the £60m mark.

Indeed, Dibling is a talent with a huge ceiling, having shown glimpses of his potential in this Premier League season. However, that does not warrant Tottenham to splash an eye-watering fee of £60m for his services. Yes, the Hotspur Way bosses have now got a direction to build their squad, but with several areas in need of reinforcing after a disastrous domestic campaign, Levy must not meet Southampton’s current demands to sign Dibling.

If our negotiations team can bring that price down to £50m by inserting various clauses, then it would represent a sensible move.
