RB Leipzig set asking price for Tottenham-linked Xavi Simons

Tottenham Hotspur have been super active in the summer transfer window since last week. They wrapped up the deal for Japanese prospect Kota Takai, before making their first major capture of the summer in the form of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.

Spurs also triggered Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause. But Nottingham Forest are pulling out all stops and have decided to file a legal complaint to the Premier League against the North London club for breaching the contractual agreement details.

There is still work to do in reshaping the squad, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison linked with potential exits. This means there still could be scope to bring in another attacker, especially following the latest developments.

The Lilywhites have been interested in signing RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons for a while now. The 22-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer after an underwhelming campaign. RB Leipzig finished seventh and missed out on European qualification, but the Netherlands international enjoyed a strong individual campaign that saw him register 10 goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances.

RB Leipzig set asking price for Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons only joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal last summer after a successful loan spell, but a breakdown in relationship between him and the Bundesliga club means he will be allowed to leave this summer.

According to a report from German outlet Sport Bild, Simons could leave Leipzig for a fee between €60 and €70 million. Bayern Munich have been keeping tabs on the Dutchman in the wake of Jamal Musiala’s serious ankle injury at the Club World Cup.

With the price now set, should Tottenham quickly swoop in for Simons and make another statement signing for Thomas Frank?

Tottenham must not make a move for Simons until Gibbs-White decision is finalised

Simons is keen on a move to the Premier League amid interest from Tottenham and several other clubs. The ex-PSG man can operate in multiple positions across midfield and attack, and he could prove a valuable addition to the Tottenham ranks. But, he is most effective playing behind the striker- a position Gibbs-White is expected to occupy if a deal comes to fruition.

In Mathys Tel, Spurs have a potential Son successor already in the squad, while Kudus can also play on the left flank. So, until and unless the Gibbs-White saga is not resolved, Tottenham must only monitor Simons’ situation at the Red Bull Arena.
