Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old Swedish International has done quite well for the German club, and he has attracted the attention of the North London outfit. According to GMS, Tottenham were hoping to sign him, but they have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the playmaker.

Apparently, the German outfit were hoping to sign Jobe Bellingham as a replacement for the player. However, he has decided to join Borussia Dortmund instead.

Hugo Larsson asking price shoots up

Now, Frankfurt are unwilling to sell Larsson this summer because they will not be able to bring in their preferred replacement. The report claims that Tottenham will need to pay more than £50 million to alter their stance. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay a premium. There is no doubt that Larsson is a prodigious talent with a bright future, but he is still largely unproven at the highest level. Paying over £50 million for him seems unlikely.

In addition to that, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has always had a very calculative approach when it comes to transfers, and it is highly unlikely that he will overspend on the youngster. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to move on to the targets.

Tottenham need midfield depth

They need more creativity and technical ability in the final third, and Larsson would have been the ideal acquisition. He is capable of operating as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder. He would have added goals, flair, vision and control to the side.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League can be quite exciting for the Swedish midfielder, but it seems that he might have to wait to join a Premier League club.
