Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, they are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old Italian defender, and they could look to make a move for him as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero.

The Argentine International has been linked with the move away from Tottenham, and they need to replace him. Scalvini is currently one of the most highly rated young defenders in the game, and he could prove to be a solid long-term investment for Tottenham.

Tottenham keen on Giorgio Scalvini

Jacobs said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Italian defender Giorgio Scalvini during the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old is highly rated across Europe, and he’s on the radar of multiple clubs this summer… He is likely to cost around €60 million (£52m).”

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay the asking price for him. If they end up selling the World Cup-winning defender, they should have the funds to afford the Italian.

Will Tottenham pay up for Scalvini?

Tottenham can be quite calculative with their approach in the market, and they will not want to overpay for the young defender. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the Italian club to accept a more reasonable fee for the youngster.

Even though he is a tremendous young talent, he has done nothing to justify the €60 million price tag.

Meanwhile, the move to the Premier League could be the ideal next step for the young defender. Regular football in England could help him develop further. He will be up against world-class attacking players in England, and that could accelerate his development.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks. The player is highly rated across Europe, and multiple clubs are keeping tabs on him. Tottenham were keen on him under Ange Postecoglou as well.
