Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bag their Champions League qualification for the upcoming campaign, and that is clear in how Daniel Levy is moving in the transfer market, as the North Londoners have already secured the arrival of Mohammed Kudus, and the Lilywhites have been planning on signing Morgan Gibbs-White at N17. But the thing with MGW is that the transfer has gotten messy.
Even though Daniel Levy & Co. tried to activate his £60 million release clause at Hotspur Way, there is a belief from Forest that the Lilywhites approached their asset rather illegally, and they are even threatening to take legal action over it. Now this has ended up putting all the progress to bring the former Wolves midfielder to Tottenham on a temporary halt, but the player is now said to be pushing to sort his future now, and Tottenham are not giving up.
The Premier League heavyweights are said to be preparing an improved £65m bid to secure the 25-year-old’s signature as Daniel Levy looks to smooth things over and get the City Ground side to agree, per Daily Mail.
The Lilywhites know that Gibbs-White wants to move to Hotspur Way, and Nottingham know it too. So this can end up being one of those transfers where money and timing of the talks end up weighing the transfer and where it goes.
Now giving more than the release clause is a bold move, but it does look like this might be the only way to get it done without more drama. And by the looks of it, it is also hard to see Forest holding him back for much longer now, given that Gibbs-White wants the move.
When we think about Forest last season, beyond the goals from Wood, MGW was their star man, and that is also replicated in the fact that he scored seven goals and complemented those with 10 assists in the English top tier. But we saw something beyond just his goal contributions; we saw that he is ready to play on the next level now, and if a move to Tottenham were to materialise, it would mean Champions League football and a bigger stage while getting an opportunity to play under a coach who is known for developing midfielders.
Gibbs-White has that skillset in him, but there is still plenty of room to grow, and for Tottenham, he does end up ticking a lot of boxes.
