Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways on Wednesday night with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup third round.
Spurs were drawn with holders Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, which left talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara in disbelief and he has since predicted his former club to lose at St James’ Park next month. Thomas Frank rotated his squad against Doncaster Rovers and the decision paid off, with some players getting much-needed rest.
Now the attention quickly turns back to the Premier League, where the Lilywhites were held to a 2-2 draw by Brighton and Hove Albion last time out. In fact, Thomas Frank and Co. showed great character and fighting spirit to come from 2-0 down to draw at Brighton, pinching a valuable point to move third in the table.
Tottenham are set to welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night. Ahead of the meeting with Wolves, Thomas Frank has provided his latest team news. The Spurs gaffer confirmed that Dominic Solanke will again miss out due to his ankle issue, having not trained on Friday morning.
Dominic Solanke has not donned the famous white shirt since the 2-0 win over Manchester City in late August as he continues to struggle with a niggling ankle injury. The striker stepped up his comeback bid out on the grass at Tottenham training last week, but Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Doncaster came too early for him.
“Dom is not available. It’s just been a little bit tricky [with him]. We’re positive it will be relatively quick,” Frank said in his pre-match presser.
“It’s still not perfect but it’s moving in the right direction. When there’s a bit of pain it’s about getting it right. He [Solanke] wasn’t on the grass today but he was earlier in the week.”
Solanke has been dealing with ankle problems since last season. It has seemingly carried onto this campaign, limiting the striker’s involvement on the pitch for Frank’s side. He has barely featured and has already missed plenty of action, with Richarlison currently shouldering the responsibility of leading the Tottenham attack.
Frank will have to rely on Richarlison again to spearhead his team’s attack against Wolves on Saturday. With Randal Kolo Muani also ruled out with a dead leg, the Brazilian must add to his tally of three league goals this term and help the Lilywhites bag three points.
