Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Rogers is not averse to extending Aston Villa stay

Thomas Frank has endured a brilliant start at Tottenham this season. Under the Danish tactician’s guidance, the Lilywhites find themselves just a point outside of the Premier League top-four, having lost only two of their first eleven matches in all competitions. However, despite the positive performances, there are still some key areas that need to be addressed if Spurs are to build on their momentum and compete on multiple fronts this campaign.

Spurs need to bring in a new #10 in the upcoming transfer window if they are to compete on all four fronts this season. The injury to James Maddison has set the club back as they do not have a creative output in the team that could provide a different dynamic in the final third from the middle of the park. The England international’s absence has carved a huge hole in that position for the Lilywhites.

In Maddison’s absence, Frank has experimented with Lucas Bergvall and Xavi Simons in the attacking midfield role. Bergvall has impressed with his work rate and adaptability, despite not being accustomed to playing in such an advanced position. Simons, on the other hand, is still adjusting to life in North London and has yet to deliver consistent performances for the team.

Tottenham may miss out on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Tottenham have made signing a new attacking midfielder a priority as they look to compete on all fronts this season. Thomas Frank relies heavily on his midfielders to create chances and link-up with the attackers. So, it is important for the Lilywhites to bring in a player that would be ready to make an instant impact at N17 in the second half of the campaign.

Recent reports suggested Spurs had identified Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as the perfect replacement of James Maddison in the #10 role. The England international was linked with a summer move to N17, before opting to stay put at Villa Park. And in recent weeks, he was again linked with the Lilywhites as they looked to lure him to North London by offering him a vital role under Thomas Frank.

But Tottenham have now suffered a setback in their efforts to land the 23-year-old in the coming months. As per Sky Sports News (via X), Rogers is in the early stages of extending his contract at Aston Villa. The England international has already held positive talks with the Villans and there are talks of extending his stay at the Midlands club until 2031.

This might prove to be a massive blow for the Lilywhites as they were keen on landing the prolific attacker in January. Now, Spurs must look to switch their focus on other alternatives instead. The North London club is also linked with a move for Dortmund star Julian Brandt. The German international will not cost a fortune and Tottenham would end up saving money for other positions as well.
