Tottenham Hotspur host London rivals Crystal Palace on Thursday at 8:00pm. Igor Tudor’s side are without a Premier League win since a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture on 28 December. Defeats against Arsenal and Fulham in Tudor’s first two matches have emphasised the size of the task he faces. While controversial decisions impacted those results, performances are yet to improve under the Croatian. The importance of a positive result is clear for Tottenham, who remain heavily involved in a relegation battle. Crystal Palace visit North London coming off a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United. Oliver Glasner’s side have been in inconsistent form, winning just two of their last six league matches. Here is our Tottenham predicted lineup and the latest team news vs Crystal Palace.
Igor Tudor surprised most when he opted for a 4-4-2 formation at Craven Cottage. While he has often preferred a 3-4-2-1, Spurs’ injury crisis has reduced the profiles available to implement it. The absence of Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie likely caused the shift, with Tudor selecting Archie Gray and Pedro Porro as full-backs in a four-man defence. Tottenham have struggled to build from the back, and Xavi Simons often dropped deeper to counter the issue against Fulham. However, he struggled to make an impact as Spurs remained ineffective offensively.
The introduction of Mathys Tel, Pape Sarr, Souza and Richarlison saw Spurs look more threatening. Tel gave increased output down the left, providing the pre-assist for Richarlison’s goal. Tudor’s team looked far more fluid after the substitutions. As a result, he may lean into a setup more similar to the second half for Thursday’s match. Souza could therefore be introduced to the starting lineup, offering a left-footed option on that side.
Cristian Romero will serve the final match of his suspension, following his red card against Manchester United.
Djed Spence missed out at Craven Cottage. When asked about his status in Wednesday’s press conference, Tudor replied: “Djed is out, he’s not ready for the game.”
Spurs play Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and while Spence is ruled out for Palace’s visit, he may be returning for that clash. Asked when Spence would return, Tudor said: “We hope for Champions League.”
However, there are no fresh injury concerns. There will also be no returns with Tudor confirming there was “no other news” regarding injuries.
Destiny Udogie, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison and Mohamed Kudus are all ruled out.
