Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White after triggering his £60million release clause

Tottenham Hotspur are now beginning to make significant moves in the summer transfer window after a sluggish start, having already agreed a deal with West Ham United for Mohammed Kudus on Wednesday.

Approach have already been made for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, but Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has now joined the conversation. Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the Englishman and they are finally about to clinch his signature.

According to transfer news king Fabrizio Romano on X, Tottenham have triggered Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause after formal talks with Nottingham Forest today. He will undergo a medical on Friday ahead of his move to Spurs, as new head coach Thomas Frank continues to bolster his squad.

The 24-year-old has agreed to make the move to North London having drawn interest from several top clubs earlier this summer, including Manchester City. Morgan Gibbs-White enjoyed the best season of his career last term, scoring seven and assisting eight in the Premier League. He was one of Nottingham Forest’s standout performers, helping them clinch a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

What happens to James Maddison?

Gibbs-White’s arrival at Spurs will give Thomas Frank a significant boost in his midfield options. The Lilywhites have managed to entice the England international to White Hart Lane with the prospect of playing in the Champions League. But, what happens to James Maddison after the Forest playmaker’s signing?

James Maddison was the club’s creator-in-chief last term, producing 11 assists in 45 games. He also netted 12 goals on top of that was one of the prime reasons behind Tottenham’s Europa League winning campaign, even though unfortunately he missed the final against Manchester United due to injury.

The 28-year-old has not managed to keep himself fit across two seasons in North London and continues to be on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury before the Europa League final in May. With Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Mathys Tel all available in attack, there needs to be some space made in Frank’s squad, and Maddison could make way this summer. The England international occupies a similar position on the pitch to potential incomers Gibbs-White and Kudus.

Or else, with the Lilywhites set to compete in four competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, Maddison could become a squad option under Frank. With two creative-minded players in Kudus and Gibbs-White about to join, it certainly plunges Maddison’s future into doubt at Tottenham.
