Tottenham told to closely evaluate fitness of RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons before making a move

With Thomas Frank becoming the new Tottenham Hotspur boss, a new of style is set to be employed from next season onward.

The Lilywhites will try to strengthen their squad with players who can make a difference at both ends of the pitch. This summer, the Hotspur Way chiefs are evaluating profiles that can offer guile, unpredictability, pace and goals. This is because of the underwhelming performances of many forwards last season.

Son Heung-min has to be at the apex of the list. The South Korean appears to be well past his prime and Spurs are open to cashing him in this summer. Richarlison also falls into that category, while Wilson Odobert endured an injury-ravaged debut season in North London. The responsibility of creating goals fell on the shoulders of James Maddison, and while he did well, there were instances when he went missing in games and the team failed to unlock tight defences.

Perhaps to solve this problem, Tottenham are interested in signing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. The 22-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer after an underwhelming campaign.

The Bundesliga club finished seventh and missed out on European qualification, but Xavi Simons enjoyed a strong individual campaign that yielded 10 goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances. The Netherlands international’s performances have caught the attention of Spurs, but injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar feels the North Londoners may take a closer look at the playmaker’s ankle injury sustained last term.

“The club may take a closer look at his recent significant ankle injury to see if there is anything outside normal variance when it comes to his healing,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He missed a decent chunk of last season, so that’s always a concern.

“It’ll be up to the club to see if they’re satisfied with his recovery post the setback.”

Simons did suffer an ankle injury in late October that kept him out on the sidelines for over two months, missing 15 games in the process. He did return from an ankle injury with a bang in January with a brace against Werder Bremen, demonstrating his class and quality.

Indeed, the last thing Tottenham would want is another season riddled with injury problems, and to avoid chances of minimising that, they need to evaluate their potential targets’ fitness thoroughly. As far as Simons is concerned, the last season’s ankle injury was the only significant one in his career and that shouldn’t be much to worry about for Tottenham. He is a classy player who operate in both wide and central areas and help out Maddison in terms of creativity and vision.

That said, Spurs must try their best to sign Simons from RB Leipzig and compound on their transfer strategy of recruiting highly-rated talents across Europe.
