Archie Gray hopes Tottenham Hotspur will learn from their PSG defeat as Fulham await on Saturday

Things had to get better for Tottenham Hotspur. After a dismal derby defeat to Arsenal, Thomas Frank and Spurs fans wanted to see a response from the boys, a performance with more fight, spirit and attacking verve against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. And it would not be wrong to say they got it, albeit a 5-3 defeat to the European champions.

Spurs started the game against Paris Saint-Germain brilliantly, taking the lead via Richarlison after some solid defensive work. However, the lead did not last long thanks to a spectacular Vitinha strike just before half-time, and while Tottenham went ahead again after the break, PSG stormed their way back into the game before taking an unassailable lead.

Lucas Hernandez was shown a late red card for elbowing substitute Xavi Simons, but the game had already drifted away from Thomas Frank’s side by then.

Archie Gray sheds light on Tottenham’s defeat to PSG

Thomas Frank took full responsibility for his tactics employed in the embarrassing defeat at Arsenal. The onus was on him to change his tactics and give the players more freedom to express themselves against PSG on Wednesday. And he did so, changing the shape from 3-4-2-1 to 4-2-2-2 and making some changes in personnel.

As part of the changes, in came Archie Gray and the teenager had a strong outing at Parc des Princes. He was involved in two goals; linking up with Lucas Bergvall for the opener and producing a fine cross to the back post. The Englishman reacted quickest to Richarlison’s header from the corner, and although his shot cannoned off the crossbar, it fell kindly for Kolo Muani to smash home the volley.

Archie Gray shed light on the game, explaining that Spurs scored some goals and will take some good moments into weekend’s Premier League fixture against Fulham. He conceded that PSG are a “top team” and the north Londoners suffered against them, but there are things to learn from the defeat.

“We played against a top opponent tonight, they are probably the best team in Europe at the moment. There were some good moments we can take into Fulham,” Gray told in an interview with TNT Sports (h/t BBC Sport).

“We scored some goals, there are things we can work on, but they are a top, top team, and there are moments you will suffer against them.

“They are the best team in Europe, and they are relentless in every aspect of their game, and they have that individual class. They are a top team, and there are things we can learn from.”

Tottenham must go all guns blazing vs Fulham

Indeed, there were some really good moments for Tottenham in the 5-3 defeat to PSG. The most important aspect was Frank’s side managed to score some goals and that would lift the confidence levels of the forwards. Both Richarlison and Kolo Muani got into the scoresheet, and other than their goals, caused problems to the home side’s defence with their directness, pressing and physicality

Next up for Spurs is a London derby against Fulham. The Cottagers have shown indifferent form this season and lie 15 in the table. This is perhaps the best time to host them and get back to winning ways. Frank would want to see the same intensity and aggression from his players when they take the pitch on Saturday against Fulham.
