Ex-Aston Villa chief thinks Tottenham will have to rebuild their squad if they suffer relegation.

Tottenham Hotspur have had a miserable Premier League campaign this time around, sitting 16th in the table, just above the relegation zone. Igor Tudor, who has replaced Thomas Frank at the helm on an interim basis, is currently trying to keep them in the top-flight.

The likelihood of Spurs going down from the Premier League for the first time in their history is very much on the cards. A league win in 2026 has so far evaded the Lilywhites, with Igor Tudor failing to weave his magic after joining the club last month.

The Croatian tactician has built a reputation for stabilising struggling sides and has rescued several clubs from difficult situations in recent years. It is a risky move, and his appointment has not managed to calm the nerves of the N17 faithful. The fans will be hoping he can live up to his reputation as a firefighter manager in the next couple of months.

Tottenham advised to rebuild their squad after a disastrous domestic campaign

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness feels Tottenham will undergo a massive player exodus if they suffer relegation. The Lilywhites would face financial difficulties if they dropped to the Championship, making it difficult to get back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

“You’re also going to have to rebuild your squad to do well in the Championship, because a lot of those Premiership players do not work in the Championship effectively given the heavy schedule and the type of football that’s played there,” Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast.

“It’s a long battle. It’s a very, very tough season in the Championship, and it takes a certain type of mindset and quality of player to get through it. So, Spurs would have to reorganise, but they’re going to have to do it with a lower cost base.

“Certainly, the parachute payments are only there really effectively for one or two seasons, and that’s the only thing that makes a difference for you. They’re lucky they have got the other revenue streams coming from the stadium.

“Overall, it’s a really scary proposition, and they will definitely need those massive player reductions to be able to keep the cost base and put together a competitive squad.”

Indeed, the prospect of relegation is extremely scary for everyone involved with Spurs. Wyness is right about Tottenham finding it difficult to achieve promotion if they go down, especially given how the likes of Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham have operated so far. They did not address many of the squad’s pressing needs in the winter transfer window, and despite splashing the cash last summer, most of the signings have not worked out.

As the North Londoners are in a downward spiral, Tudor has to come up with a plan to get his team out of the mess and that too quickly.
