Tottenham face a battle from Premier League rivals to sign Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters

Tottenham Hotspur will aim to bolster their defence in the summer after an underwhelming season. The North Londoners are in all sorts of trouble in the Premier League, and it is likely that Daniel levy will look to address the problems at the club.

A glut of injuries have not helped the Ange Postecoglou-managed squad to progress in his second season at N17. Barring Pedro Porro, all Spurs defenders have spent time on the sidelines, hampering any sort of rhythm and cohesion on the pitch. Plus, the lack of squad depth has seriously affected the performances and the results, with the Lilywhites failing to strike a balance between the Europa League and the domestic competitions.

There is no surprise that Spurs are planning to bring in a new full-back in the summer. With Destiny Udogie spending time on the sidelines, and Pedro Porro linked with a move to Barcelona, the North London club will aim to sign a quality full-back to replace the Spaniard in the squad if he departs. Plus, Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies are out of contract at the end of the season and expected to leave White Hart Lane.

Tottenham are interested in re-signing Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton. The versatile defender is set to depart Southampton on a free transfer as he nears the end of his contract, although he is yet to make a concrete decision over his next move.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Tottenham have approached the agents of Kyle Walker-Peters over a possible return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Clubs such as Everton, West Ham United and Leeds United have also spoken to the English defender.

“I’m told no decision just yet. Leeds have had contact, but as we know they’re one of many clubs to be in touch with him. West Ham, Spurs, Everton… there’s loads. And some foreign clubs are lurking too,” Graeme Bailey exclusively told to Leeds United News.

Walker-Peters has refused to extend his contract at St Mary’s Stadium amid the club’s relegation from the Premier League. The 28-year-old has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise torrid campaign for the Saints, registering two assists in 33 league appearances. He has made up his mind of leaving Southampton, putting several clubs on red alert.

At 28, Walker-Peters is into his prime and would be a quality replacement for Porro if he exits. He’d bring experience and quality to the Spurs side, whilst adding competition within the squad.

And on a potential free transfer, Spurs signing the Englishman would represent an extremely savvy business in a summer where several areas need reinforcing.
