James Maddison has been plagued by injuries.

Tottenham Hotspur will surely be in the market for a new attacking midfielder when the summer window comes around as the Lilywhites continue to struggle with creativity in the ongoing season.

Tottenham have Sevilla looking at their long-term target

That lack of creativity in the current roster is owing to the long-term spell that James Maddison has been having on the sidelines, alongside the fact that Xavi Simons has still only been adapting to the English top tier, and the La Masia academy graduate is nowhere near putting in his best performances since joining Tottenham.

Maybe we have seen glimpses of his potential at Hotspur Away, but that has not been enough if you compare it with how much Tottenham fans expect out of him.

And that is exactly why Tottenham were eyeing moves for creators who have that Premier League experience in Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.

But while those two transfers did not come off, Tottenham are looking at another creative midfielder from the English top tier in Daichi Kamada (with 20 appearances), with Crystal Palace midfielder attracting interest given that his contract at Selhurst Park runs out at the end of the ongoing season, and given the whole situation with Glasner’s exit, it doesn’t look like Kamada is also going to pen new terms with the Eagles.

But given that he will be available on a Bosman deal, Sevilla are said to be exploring an opportunity to sign the midfielder.(h/t Fichajes)

Is Kamada a James Maddison replacement?

The Spanish club have a reputation for identifying high-value free transfers, and they are looking at Kamada as someone who can bring that technical ability to Sevilla, someone who will quite fit the tactical system at Hotspur Way. In addition to his experience in multiple elite European leagues, he also has the ability to create things out of nothing.

But this is the exact situation (availability on a free transfer) that has attracted Tottenham’s attention; given there is this uncertainty around the long-term future of James Maddison at N17 following his consistent spells in the treatment room, Tottenham have been looking at options for that attacking midfield role, someone who has the capacity to make an immediate impact at N17.

For now, he remains at Crystal Palace, helping them close out their campaign by qualifying for Europe, but beyond these weeks, Sevilla will surely start to put things in place in the background to put themselves in a good position to land him on a free transfer. And if Tottenham are serious about their pursuit of the 29-year-old, they should start doing the same as well.
