Towering Forward Set to Depart Sheffield United Which Could See Striker Return to Bramall Lane

Sheffield United look set to part ways with experienced striker Kieffer Moore in the coming days as Wrexham swoop in for the Welsh international.

The deal, believed to be worth around £2 million according to Sky Sports, will see the soon to be 33-year-old depart Bramall Lane after just 12 months with the Blades. Moore joined United from Bournemouth last summer and struggled with a hernia for much of the season.

Towards the back end of the campaign, Moore became a key part of United’s starting eleven, and he proved to be a handful in the play-off semi-finals. However, he also played a huge role in Sunderland’s winning goal in the play-off final, which has since seen supporters split opinion on whether or not he should remain in the squad for the 2025/26 Championship season.

His departure will free up significant wages for United and give the club added flexibility in the summer transfer market as they rebuild for another promotion push. Manager Ruben Selles is keen to move quickly to replace Moore, who turns 33 later this month.

Could Sheffield United Replace Moore With McBurnie?

One name already under consideration is a familiar one: former Blades striker Oli McBurnie. The 29-year-old is a free agent after leaving Las Palmas this summer and has held discussions with Sheffield United over a potential return just 12 months after departing Bramall Lane, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Scotsman featured 34 times for Las Palmas last term, scoring three times and adding six assists. But his efforts weren’t enough to stop them from suffering relegation to La Liga 2, which in effect activated a clause in McBurnie’s contract meaning he could leave for free if Las Palmas were relegated.

McBurnie is also understood to have spoken with another former club in Swansea City. Meanwhile, Hull City and Ipswich Town make up the quartet of Championship sides after the striker, while clubs in Spain are monitoring his situation as well, notably Celta Vigo.

Blades Set For Midfield Reinforcement

In other news, The Star are reporting that Djibril Soumare, the promising defensive midfielder from Braga, could be confirmed as a new Sheffield United player in the matter of days. The Senegalese 22-year-old is seen as a natural replacement for Vinicius Souza, who departed S2 for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg earlier this summer.
