Ex-Premier League striker Troy Deeney has rated Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window very highly

Tottenham Hotspur had a frantic deadline day dash in a bid to reinforce their forward line.

After learning Dominic Solanke’s ankle injury is more severe than the early prognosis, Spurs acted swiftly and brought in Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day. Last weekend, they managed to land one of the exciting talents in European football in the form of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, having seen moves for both Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze collapse.

Alongside Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons, the Lilywhites also signed Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Kota Takai, Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus. The signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United garnered a lot of headlines, and the versatile forward has already shown, in his short time in north London, why he is so highly regarded in Europe.

Ex-Premier League striker grades Tottenham’s summer transfer window

Speaking on The Football Exchange podcast, former Watford skipper Troy Deeney has given A+ to Tottenham’s transfer window, provided the new signings work out for Thomas Frank. He feels the front three of Kudus, Kolo Muani and Simons are “deliberately” better than the attacking trio Spurs already had.

“Yeah. Can I give two grades?” Troy Deeney said on The Football Exchange podcast.

“If it works out, it’s an A+. No, but I’m saying if it got that because you’re talking about players that are deliberately better than what they have right.

“In Simons, Kudus and Kolo Muani, that front three is deliberately better than the three they’ve already got on pure raw talent. On a consistent basis, well, there’s a reason with the greatest respect they’re at Spurs.

“Do you get my point? So, so it’s like I want to say like if it works out potential wise an A+, what I think it’s going to be is a B.”

Thomas Frank has got exciting options in attack

Spurs had to bring in attacking reinforcements to offset the departure of club legend Son Heung-min and the loss of James Maddison to a serious knee injury. In Kudus, Simons and Kolo Muani, Thomas Frank has got outstanding attacking players with flair, skill set and versatility.

With both Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined with injuries, Simons is set to replace the pair, playing in the No.10 role. Kudus can also operate in a central role but he seems to have cemented his spot on the right flank, which has seen Johnson operate from the opposite flank in the opening games of the season.

Kolo Muani, who can play as a No.9 and off the left, would be raring to push Richarlison and even dislodge him from Frank’s XI. With so many games to play this season, expect Frank to rotate his squad significantly and keep everyone fit and hungry to succeed.
