Hakan Calhanoglu is in talks with Inter Milan behind the scenes to smooth things over following his transfer drama this summer.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that the Turkish international is ready to reintegrate into the squad after the rumours caused some tension in the squad.
It is now looking like Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu won’t be going to Galatasaray after all.
The 31-year-old has been strongly linked with the Turkish champions for weeks.
However, it was always uncertain whether Galatasaray would be able to make a sufficient offer for Inter.
This week, the Istanbul giants finally approached Inter. And it quickly became clear that they were absolutely nowhere near the Nerazzurri’s asking price for Calhanoglu.
The damage, however, has partly been done.
The constant transfer rumours have caused no small amount of tension behind the scenes at Inter.
Most notably, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez all but called Calhanoglu.
Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”
But it was not just Martinez who was left frustrated by all the rumours about Calhanoglu’s commitments.
Moreover, Calhanoglu’s choice to respond to Martinez’s comments on social media hardly lightened the atmosphere.
All the same, Inter feel that it should be possible to patch things up. Calhanoglu’s professionalism is not in question, and he has accepted that he will not be going to Galatasaray this summer.
Therefore, the talks are now ongoing to deal with the fallout of everything that’s happened.
