Turki Al-Sheikh has once again attracted attention from Manchester United supporters, months after his name became heavily associated with takeover speculation surrounding the club.

The Saudi government official is chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and has become one of the most influential figures in global sport, particularly through Riyadh Season and its huge boxing events.

His profile meant supporters paid close attention when he previously claimed United were in an “advanced stage” of negotiations with a new investor.

United sources subsequently pushed back on those claims.

Meanwhile, Al-Sheikh later clarified that he was not the investor and that the interested party was not from Saudi Arabia.

Nevertheless, ownership remains a sensitive subject around Old Trafford.

The Glazer family remain majority owners, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS hold a significant minority stake and control football operations.

That arrangement has done little to completely calm supporter frustration, with the first protest of the 2026/27 season already planned ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby.

With takeover talk never far away, any fresh interaction between Turki Al-Sheikh and United naturally draws interest.

Turki Al-Sheikh reacts to Manchester United announcement

This time, however, the story has nothing to do with a takeover.

Manchester United officially announced their new adidas Football x United EQT collection on X, showcasing a retro-inspired clothing range featuring the club crest.

Al-Sheikh then reposted United’s announcement to his own account.

He accompanied it with a string of fire emojis, a thumbs-up, a heart and a flexed-bicep emoji, clearly showing his approval of the collection.

The interaction is notable simply because of the history surrounding his previous United comments.

Al-Sheikh has previously described himself as a supporter who wanted a potential takeover to happen, while distancing himself personally from any bid.

His latest reaction should therefore not be interpreted as evidence of renewed investment talks.

Instead, it appears to be exactly what it looks like: one of sport’s highest-profile powerbrokers publicly showing his appreciation for a Manchester United release.
