Two players officially handed Manchester United debuts

With the new season now underway, much attention is being shed on the potential of Manchester United in the coming months.

Having initially hit a bump in the starting blocks, losing 2-0 to Hull City, Michael Carrick’s side recovered from 1-0 down to win 5-2 against Ipswich Town last weekend.

On Sunday, Carrick’s side will face Everton in their second away Premier League fixtures of the season.

Whilst United look prepared for the fixture, having made their respective signings earlier on in the summer window, their opponents appear to be scrambling.

The Toffees, managed by David Moyes, have been left with just one striker in their entire squad following the departure of Beto during the closing stages of the window.

Moyes’ side have turned their attention to both Anthony Martial and Jamie Vardy as possible options to help fill the existing void.

Away from the men’s team, Manchester United Women are also about to get their season underway.

Under the management of Eva Olid, who was hired as the side’s new manager earlier this summer after Marc Skinner departed, the team had been preparing to face London City Lionesses in their first Women’s Super League fixture of the season.

The starting elevens for the match were revealed before the match took place with Olid handing one of her new players their official debut for the game.

Taking to X, Manchester United Women confirmed that Andrea Medina had been named in the starting eleven.

New signings Monica Jusu Bah, Janina Leitzig, and Rebecca Bernal were also been named on the bench, with Bah coming on for her debut in the 62nd minute whilst the other two players did not play.

United’s opponents, London City Lionesses, have had a hectic summer transfer window signing former England international Mary Earps, two-time Ballon D’Or winner Alexia Putellas, and four time Champions League winner Mapi León, among others.

Having finished sixth in the Women’s Super League last season, the Lionesses are aiming to push for Champions League qualification this season.

Manchester United went behind in the game against London City in the 9th minute with midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme heading the ball into her own net from a corner.

Olid’s side conceded again in the 82nd minute through Danielle van de Donk and, even though Simi Awujo pulled one back late on for The Red Devils, London City Lionesses ultimately took home all three points.

United are scheduled to face Chelsea in their next fixture of the season on Sunday 13th September.
