Tyrell Malacia is staying at Manchester United after being named in their 25-man squad for the new Premier League season, having failed to secure a move away during the transfer window.
The summer saw United list five players as surplus to requirements under Ruben Amorim, with the group including Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Malacia himself.

Rashford and Sancho both left on loan deals, while Garnacho and Antony found permanent moves away from Old Trafford. That left Malacia as the only one of the group still at the club heading into the new campaign.
Malacia held talks with several clubs during the window but couldn’t agree terms with any of them. Despite this, he’s stayed on and been given a spot in Amorim’s squad list for 2024/25.
The Dutch defender is hoping that a fresh start under Amorim will give him a chance to get his career back on track. He didn’t play at all last season due to injury and spent most of it away from Old Trafford recovering back home in Holland.
He also fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag before that spell on the sidelines. Even now, his chances look limited given how deep United are at full-back, especially after adding Youssef En-Nesyri this summer.
Even though Malacia didn’t end up signing with a new club, there was still plenty of interest during the summer window.
He was linked with Elche in La Liga, but talks broke down before anything could be finalised. A similar situation happened with Turkish side Eyüpspor, who had agreed a deal with United but couldn’t convince the player.
According to Turkish reporter Reşat Can Özbudak, Eyüpspor sent someone over to Manchester, only to find out that Malacia wasn’t interested in making the move to Turkey.

United In Focus has learned that a few Greek clubs also expressed interest and held discussions with both United and Malacia. Newly promoted AEL were among those considering a deal.
Pafos FC were also offered Malacia by intermediaries as they prepared for their Champions League campaign, but that approach didn’t progress any further either.
The Belgian Pro League came up as another option during negotiations, though it was never a destination Malacia seemed eager to pursue.
Interestingly enough, despite not securing any moves away from Old Trafford, Tyrell Malacia remains part of Man United’s 25-man Premier League squad for the 2025/26 season under Amorim’s leadership.
Malacia’s most recent outing for United was in their final group stage match of the 2024/25 Europa League against FCSB. Soon after, Amorim opted to send him out on loan to PSV Eindhoven.
Despite PSV going on to win the Eredivisie title, Malacia struggled for regular minutes at left-back and eventually returned to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign.
With United no longer involved in the Carabao Cup, his opportunities for game time look even more limited this season.
