Squad depth could prove decisive for Tottenham Hotspur as they embark upon a new UCL adventure

Tottenham have endured a brilliant start under Thomas Frank this season. The Lilywhites have already managed to win four of their opening six games of the new campaign, proving that they are a completely different outfit under the Danish tactician. The impressive run of form means that Spurs fans should not have plenty to complain about on the footballing side of things.

However, there is one thing that Frank has failed to implement at N17 till now. The ex-Brentford boss is not big on making full use of his squad and rotating players. This means that squad players have not gotten a fair chance of proving their worth at the North London club and push for a place in the starting eleven.

These are still early days in the season, so fans will hope that Thomas Frank changes this trend as Spurs will have plenty of games to play if they are aiming to compete hard on all four fronts under the Danish tactician’s guidance. The ex-Brentford boss must look to give all his players a fair chance to keep them match-fit and ready for any unexpected circumstances.

The likes of Mathys Tel, Brennan Johnson, and Kevin Danso are all patiently waiting in the wings, hoping that they are not being overlooked by Thomas Frank as the season goes on. With the Lilywhites aiming to go deep in the Champions League, the Danish tactician will be forced to utilise his full squad as key players will need to rest at some point as the campaign goes on.

Martin Allen backs Frank to give a fair chance to all his players as Champions League football comes into the picture regularly. Speaking to Tottenham News, Allen said,

“When you’re playing in the Champions League, you need every player. You can’t just go through back-to-back games playing the same players. You’ve got to change them. They need resting, and they need freshening up. But I think things are really looking up for Tottenham in all honesty.”

It stands true that Thomas Frank cannot just rely on the same batch of players to play a game every three days this season. With the Champions League well and truly kicking off for this campaign, the Danish tactician must look to rotate his squad and keep the legs fresh. This will also provide the North London club a different dynamic on both ends of the football pitch, as well as, keep the players happy by giving them adequate gametime.

It remains to be seen how Frank manages to counter this issue as the season goes on. The fans will hope that each player gets to make an impact for Spurs if the club wants to build on its Europa League success this time around. Will the Danish tactician rely on his squad players during crucial games? Only time will tell.
