Manchester United are yet to sanction any significant outgoings in the first phase of the transfer window — but did add Matheus Cunha to Ruben Amorim’s ranks on the opening day.

Whilst talks remain ongoing for Bryan Mbeumo, there is an inescapable need to make sales in the coming months, especially after the side failed to secure Champions League qualification in May.

The defeat in the Europa League final left United navigating a precarious financial situation, with the board now keen to offload as much deadwood as possible in order to comply with the league’s Profit and Sustainability laws.

United must be ruthless with summer sales

Alas, it’s thought that almost every player in the squad is available for the right price, except the likes of Bruno Fernandes, who rebuffed a lucrative early proposal from Al-Hilal to stay committed to the club.

There are undoubtedly numerous Reds whom the Old Trafford faithful would prefer to see the back of, too. It’s no secret that some of Erik ten Hag’s chosen acquisitions simply haven’t fared anywhere near the way fans  – or the club – had initially hoped, such as Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

The latter, however, has personally expressed his desire to stay put this summer, though whether that could change based on the rumoured interest he’s receiving remains to be seen.

Hojlund offered Serie A exit route after lacklustre 24/25 campaign

Hojlund has been linked with an M16 exit just two years on from his £72 million move (add-ons included) from Atalanta, and, while there are hopes the 22-year-old could continue refining his game and develop into a prolific goalscorer at United, there hasn’t been many promising signs that could be the case based on last season.

He found the back of the net only four times in the Premier League last term, scoring six fewer times than in his maiden campaign in England.

Such form has prompted INEOS to go all-out in search of a proven No.9 to ensure Amorim has enough options in his first full season. In the meantime, Hojlund has found himself on the shortlists of two European giants.

According to Italian football expert Alfredo Pedulla (via CaughtOffside), both Napoli, the newly-crowned Serie A champions, and Inter Milan, this year’s Champions League finalists, have identified the Dane as a suitable option to potentially pursue.

“Napoli are actively searching for a striker. Over a month ago, we reported their strong interest in Darwin Nunez, who is set to leave Liverpool. For now, the striker has turned down offers from Saudi clubs,” Pedulla began.

“In addition to Nunez, Napoli are also following Lorenzo Lucca, who is attracting interest from several Serie A clubs, and Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, who is also on Inter’s radar.”
