United States Women's National Team goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has retired from professional soccer.
She's on the roster for the next two USWNT games against England and the Netherlands but those will be her final two games with the squad.
She has spent 11 years playing for the USMNT and helped her country win the Women’s World Cup in 2019 and the Gold Medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. She recorded shutouts in both of those games.
"I am so grateful for all of the incredible teammates that I have shared the field with. Teammates that have turned into lifelong friends. Thank you all for pushing me, supporting me, and making me a better person/player every single day! Thank you to all of the coaches that took a chance and believed in me. Thank you to my family, you have traveled all over the world and were in my corner every step of the way," part of her retirement statement read.
“Every tear shed in the challenging times and disappointments made every smile and celebration in the moments of success that much more joyful. This has been a special team to be a part of and I am beyond proud of what we have achieved both on and off the field. The memories I have made over the years will last me a lifetime," read more of the statement.
Naeher made her USWNT debut in 2014 and made over 100 appearances throughout her career. She made 110 starts and notched 88 wins.
We wish Naeher all the best in retirement after a brilliant soccer career.
