Mauricio Pochettino and the United States men’s national soccer team are set to embark on their second consecutive FIFA World Cup, this time on home soil. The USMNT was placed in Group D, where it will face Paraguay, Australia and Turkey beginning June 12. And the likes of Christian Pulisic , Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams will once again suit up for the team.
Mauricio Pochettino has found coaching success with several clubs throughout his career. The Argentinian helped Paris Saint-Germain win the Ligue 1 title in 2021-22 and guided Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur to a UEFA Champions League final appearance in 2018-19. However, following a one-year stint with Chelsea, Pochettino was appointed head coach of the USMNT in September 2024. And after the World Cup, he could once again be headed elsewhere.
Massimiliano Allegri spent the last 13 seasons managing in Italy’s Serie A, most recently leading Luka Modric and AC Milan during the 2025-26 campaign. However, despite keeping the club in contention for a Champions League spot, awarded to the league’s top four teams, AC Milan ultimately fell short after losing to Cagliari and dropping to fifth place in the final week, qualifying for the Europa League instead.
After missing out on the Champions League for a second straight season, AC Milan decided it was time for another change, firing Allegri after just one year with the club. Now, AC Milan is on the hunt for a new manager. And Pochettino, whose two-year deal with the USMNT expires after the World Cup, has emerged as a potential target, with the coach reportedly offered to the club by an intermediary on Wednesday.
"Mauricio #Pochettino will leave #USA National Team after the World Cup," Italian sports journalist Nicolò Schira wrote on X. "He has been offered to #ACMilan by an intermediary in the last hours. #transfers"

Despite the potential interest from AC Milan, Pochettino and the USMNT remain focused on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will begin group play against Paraguay on June 12 at 9 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
