Two weeks after the 2025 Leageus Cup Final, Luis Suarez knows his punishment for his spitting incident. The Uruguayan striker received a six-game match ban in next year's Leagues Cup tournament.

Suarez also received a three-game ban in the MLS with Inter Miami. The bans seem meaningless for many in the MLS community, as his incident after the Leagues Cup Final was seen as worthy of a severe match ban.

The Leagues Cup match ban would rule Suarez out of the tournament completely, as it requires six games for a team to reach the final. USMNT legend Alexi Lalas finds the Leagues Cup ban pointless

On the Alexi Lalas' State of the Union Podcast, the former USMNT player questions whether the Leagues Cup ban means anything to Suarez. He believes that Suarez and Inter Miami's priority is the MLS Cup, which they have yet to come close to winning.

Alexi Lalas: "The six matches for Leagues Cup means nothing to me. And I certainly don't think it means anything to Luis Suarez. And it's not that they don't enjoy winning or want to win everything. And but yeah, I just look at it as how is it going to impact him and his team from an MLS perspective?"

Why does the Leagues Cup Ban seem pointless for Luis Suarez?

Luis Suarez's contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of the 2025 Season. It is unclear whether the club will offer Suarez a new contract to remain in the team next year.

If Suarez and Inter Miami decide not to continue next year, the Leagues Cup ban will literally mean nothing, as the player will not be part of the team. Suarez is not expected to play with Inter Miami for the 2027 Leagues Cup edition, which is when his ban will be lifted.

Suarze's priority is returning to action in the MLS and is expected to return to playing with Inter Miami against NYCFC on September 24th.

Inter Miami need points in the upcoming games as they sit 8th in the Eastern Conference with 46 points, just four points above the playoff positions.
