The USMNT star Giovanni Reyna picked up an injury during the training section of Borussia Mönchengladbach ahead of the game against Eintreich Frankfurt on Saturday, September 27.

Reyna has an extensive list of injuries, and any setback could mean that he'll be out for several weeks, or maybe months. While this was the case in some injuries back in Dortmund times, this time playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach, he is dealing with a tight injury.

According to the interim coach, Eugen Polanski, the team doesn't want to risk anything with Reyna, and for that reason he was out of today's practice ahead of the classic game in Bundesliga.

"We didn't want to risk anything and hope that he'll be available in the next few days," said Polanski

Giovanni Reyna didn’t feature in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s first two league matches as he was still working on his fitness. He finally made his debut on September 14, starting in the 4-0 loss to Werder Bremen.

Last weekend, Reyna came off the bench in the 80th minute during Gladbach’s 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Reyna Decided to Stay In Germany After Other European Clubs Bid for Him

A few MLS clubs and Italian side Parma showed interest in Giovanni Reyna, but he chose to remain in Germany and sign with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Ahead of his debut against Werder Bremen, Reyna said he was excited to keep competing in the Bundesliga and to join the club.

“Here in this amazing stadium. Can’t wait to see you guys for my first game against Bremen. Hope we can do great things together here in this stadium. Don’t miss the chance to support me and the rest of the team. Really looking forward to hopefully putting on a good performance for you guys. See you guys soon,” he said in the official Instagram account of the team.

Reyna was left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s recent call-ups, but he’s still regarded as one of the best young talents in the USMNT and a strong playmaker. His career has been disrupted by injuries, yet there’s still time to stay healthy and make his case for a spot in the 2026 World Cup squad.
