Tottenham’s first permanent signing in the Thomas Frank era has started making waves already as he looks to make a mark in the Premier League. The Lilywhites finally confirmed the signing of Mathys Tel on a permanent deal after his loan spell at N17 concluded on a high note. Credit should also go to Daniel Levy for negotiating a worthy asking price (£29.8m plus add-ons) for the Frenchman and forcing Bayern Munich to lower their demands.

Now, the 20-year-old will look to hit the ground running at his new permanent home after impressing in the latter stages of the campaign under Ange Postecoglou. It is fair to say that the talented attacker took some time to adapt to a new environment after arriving from the Bundesliga in January.

The Frenchman did not have much game time under his belt before making the switch to N17 last season, so it was only fair to not put much pressure on him and let him get back to speed by playing regularly. As the season reached its climax, Tel’s game also improved significantly and he helped the club end its 17-year wait for a major trophy in spectacular fashion.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is excited to develop Mathys Tel

It is not often that a club manages to come out on top while negotiating a deal with Bayern Munich. Yet, Daniel Levy ended up achieving that as Tottenham confirmed the signing of Mathys Tel on a permanent deal. The 20-year-old has loads of potential and fans will be happy to know that the Frenchman will develop his game at N17 after signing a six-year deal with the club.

Now, Thomas Frank has also failed to hide his excitement while talking about keeping Mathys Tel at Hotspur Way for next season and beyond. Speaking in a club interview (via Football.london), Frank said,

“Very, very excited about Mathys signing with a permanent deal. I think he’s a very talented player that can play across the front four positions. He’s a goal-scorer that we can develop even further to be more consistent in his all-round game but also to more consistently land in the right positions in the box. So, I’m looking forward to it.”

Thomas Frank is ‘excited’ to work with Mathys Tel and help the Frenchman reach his potential at Tottenham next season. The Danish tactician believes that Tel is talented and can play anywhere in the attacking line. Frank also insists that he wants to develop the 20-year-old’s game by making him a prolific goal-scorer, and also by making him reach the right places at the right time during an attack.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mathys Tel at N17. If Spurs want to aim high and compete for more trophies, then it is absolutely necessary that the Frenchman is a key part of the project under Thomas Frank. He is a good alternative to Heung-Min Son as well on the left-flank, and could provide cover for Dominic Solanke as a second striker.

Tel’s ability to track back and win possession will also be noticed by Thomas Frank as the Danish tactician pointed out that he wants hard-working players in his team next season. Fans will be excited how the 20-year-old develops as the Lilywhites kickstart a new era at N17 following their Europa League success last season.
