Bayern Munich and PSG played one of the best Champions League games ever, finishing in a 5–4 thriller at the Parc des Princes.
Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern Munich from the penalty spot in the 17th minute after Luis Díaz was fouled, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia quickly leveled for PSG with a curled finish into the bottom corner.
The hosts then took the lead through a João Neves header from a corner, only for Michael Olise to equalize for the visitors with a powerful 30-yard strike shortly before the break.
The game’s biggest talking point arrived in first-half stoppage time when a controversial handball was called against Alphonso Davies after a VAR review. Ousmane Dembélé converted the resulting penalty to make it 3–2,
In the second half, PSG appeared to pull away as Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé both secured braces to extend the lead to 5–2. However,
Bayern mounted a late fightback with goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz, ensuring the tie remains wide open heading into the second leg in Munich.
Regarding the VAR intervention that led to the penalty, Kompany remarked,
"I see the penalty won as highly debatable."
He went on to explain the technicality of the play, stating, "From what I saw, it looks like the ball hit the body first then the arm, and if that's the case it shouldn't have been a penalty."
"But I know anything can happen and yet, if we look at the footage closely, there might have been a mistake in the decision."
