Fiorentina have officially signed defender Mattia Viti from OGC Nice on loan with option to buy after his spell with Empoli.
The centre-back underwent his medical tests this afternoon and put pen to paper on the contract.
“When I found out that Fiorentina were interested, I immediately told my family. It didn’t seem real,” Viti told reporters at the Viola Park training centre.
“I love the centre of Florence, it’s a city I grew up in, and I can’t wait to play at the Stadio Franchi.”
Although born in the Borgo San Lorenzo area of Florence in January 2002, Viti came up through the Empoli youth academy and was sold to OGC Nice for €13m in 2022.
He returned to Serie A twice for loans with Sassuolo and most recently Empoli, where so is now back in Italy again for the Viola.
The news was broken by Football Italia’s own Alfredo Pedullà back on June 22.
It is a loan with option to buy for circa €5m, plus a 10 per cent cut of the future transfer fee.
Fiorentina have been very active on the transfer market, also bringing in free agent Edin Dzeko and Viti’s former Empoli teammate Jacopo Fazzini.
