Jimmy Butler is preparing for his second season with the Golden State Warriors, who will open the 2025-26 NBA campaign on the road against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. Butler was acquired by the Warriors in a trade with the Miami Heat at last season’s deadline, helping his new team reach the quarterfinals. In 30 games with Golden State, the former Marquette star averaged 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists.

But Butler has accomplished much more in his professional career than just basketball. The six-time All-Star holds endorsement deals with major companies such as Google, Michelob ULTRA and State Farm, joining teammate Stephen Curry. He also recently joined a consortium of sports and entertainment executives that made an offer to buy a 43% stake in the English Premier League club Crystal Palace, a deal that remains pending.

While Butler awaits the Crystal Palace decision, he is still making other moves in the soccer world. And on Monday, it was announced that the Warriors forward has become a minority investor in the NWSL's San Diego Wave FC. Butler now joins former USWNT star Alex Morgan in the ownership group, who also played for the team from 2022-2024.

The Wave notably clinced a spot in the 2025 NWSL Playoffs with a recent 6-1 win over the Chicago Stars. They will finish the regular season against the KC Current, a team that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes invested in. San Diego was also ranked as the fourth most valuable NWSL team by Forbes at $165 million, earning $24 million in revenue in 2025.

“Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream,” Butler said. “San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a Club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting, and setting a new standard for what women’s sports can be both on and off the pitch.”

"A Bucket. A Baller. An Investor. Welcome to Wave FC, @jimmybutler ," San Diego Wave FC wrote on Instagram, with Morgan commenting two clapping emojis

Butler and the Warriors will take on the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
