The pair's emotional reaction to Argentina's victory was understandable. With a spot in the final four on the line, Friday's contest between Argentina and the Netherlands was chock-full of intense moments from start to finish.
Things started well enough for Argentina, who grabbed a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Nahuel Molina (35th minute) and Lionel Messi (73rd minute). However, the Netherlands wouldn't go away, as they were willed back into the game by a standout performance off the bench from Wout Weghorst. Entering in the 78th minute, Weghorst scored off a header five minutes later, cutting the deficit to 2-1. In the 100th minute, Weghorst continued his heroics, tying the game off an incredible trick set-piece by the Netherlands, forcing a shootout to decide the quarterfinal winner.
In the shootout, Argentina was victorious, 4-3, with the winning strike coming from Lautaro Martinez.
