Wayne Rooney is arguably one of the most famous and recognised Manchester United players of all-time.

Rooney, who joined United in 2004 from Everton, made 393 appearances for the Red Devils across a 13-year spell whilst also scoring 183 times in his period.

Following his departure from Old Trafford, Rooney re-joined Everton for a one-year period before moving to DC United and finishing his playing career with Derby County, where he played thirty times.

Since retiring, the striker has gone down several paths with one of those being football management.

Firstly, he managed Derby County between 2020 and 2022, both as a player-manager and manager. But, Rooney resigned from the role in 2022 following relegation to League One.

He then went onto manage DC United between 2022 and 2023, but parted ways with the club following an unsuccessful campaign.

Subsequent managerial spells with both Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle would follow, but he was unsuccessful in these with the latter of them (at Plymouth) coming to an end at the end of 2024.

Since this sacking, Rooney has not entered football management again but has instead has entered the world of punditary and television with him planning to launch his own television show soon.

Meanwhile, in the world of punditary, he has appeared on programmes such as Match of the Day.

Now, on Match of the Day’s ‘Behind The Scenes’ programme, Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has gone deaf in his left ear.

As seen on the Mirror, Rooney stated to a BBC crew member’ “Can I do it in this ear? I used to close the talkback.

“The problem is I’m deaf in my left ear. So when it’s too loud I struggle to hear what Kelly Cates [MOTD presenter] or whoever is saying.”

Rooney did not reveal when he became deaf, although the news of his deafness could surprise Manchester United fans around the country and world.
