Wayne Rooney suggests former player who would be 'great for Chelsea' after glass of wine

Wayne Rooney’s podcast has been covering Chelsea’s manager search, the former England man had an interesting suggestion today.

Wayne Rooney has fired off a few interesting takes about Chelsea’s search for a new manager, including a suggestion of someone that we haven’t heard mentioned before as a candidate for a coaching role.

“I played a charity game last year and Claude Makelele was there,” Rooney explained on his podcast for the BBC.

“We sat down after the game and had a glass of wine, I absolutely loved him. I was thinking at the time, someone with his mentality and mindset, having him around the place would be great for Chelsea”.

Rooney suggests legendary former Blue as potential coach

Sadly Makelele’s experience isn’t enough to get him the manager’s job. It would be a huge mistake to appoint him as the actual coach – but he certainly seems like the dream assistant. Very recently he had a role as a loan manager – why not bring him back as a first team coach under whoever comes in this summer?

We could do a lot worse. It’s better than some of the suggestions we’ve seen of our next plan this summer…

Chelsea are already thinking about their summer plans, with an outline of what type of personality they’re aiming for laid out here.

Anthony Gordon is one of those players, and we can see why he’s appealing for those in charge of transfers.
