Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank gives Wilson Odobert injury update after AS Monaco draw

Thomas Frank watched his Tottenham Hotspur side move up to five points in the UEFA Champions League table after three games with a 0-0 draw against AS Monaco at the Principality Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Guglielmo Vicario was outstanding on the night, making eight saves in total to keep AS Monaco at bay and save the Lilywhites’ blushes. It was arguably the 29-year-old’s best performance for Spurs, coming at a critical time when his team needed him the most. Nonetheless, it was a far from a convincing display for Thomas Frank’s side from both defensive and attacking standpoint, leaving them 15th in the Champions League table.

Tottenham were extremely lucky to walk away with a point from AS Monaco, who bossed the majority of the game. Apart from getting a valuable point and keeping a clean sheet away from home, there is basically not many positives to take for Thomas Frank. And the Dane will also be concerned with Spurs’ growing injury list after another player was forced off the pitch.

Wilson Odobert suffers injury vs AS Monaco

Tottenham had 10 first-team players injured heading into the game at AS Monaco. Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie suffered injuries last week and subsequently missed the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. The trio were also ruled out for the trip to Monaco.

This forced Frank to make changes in defence when naming his starting XI on Wednesday. In attack, Wilson Odobert was handed another start. The winger had a decent first half but faded after the break before being substituted. The Frenchman seemingly sustained a back injury after being shoved off by a Monaco player in the second half.

Addressing the media after the game, Thomas Frank was asked to provide an update on Odobert’s injury. The Tottenham boss said (h/t Football London):

“Actually, I don’t know. But of course, we shoved him off because there was some pain, but I don’t know the consequences of it.”

Another poor outing for Odobert

After an injury-ravaged debut season in north London, there was hope that Frank’s arrival would have given Odobert a new lease of life this term. Although he has been given chances by the Danish tactician, the 20-year-old has so far been unable to take the initiative with both hands.

The winger has made 11 appearances across all competitions to date, registering just one assist. At 20, The Frenchman is still very young and has so much to improve, but it’s unclear if he will be able to do that at White Hart Lane. We hope Odobert’s injury is not a serious one and he recovers in time for the Everton game at the weekend.
