Tottenham manager Thomas Frank might have just given Richarlison a lifeline at N17 by trusting him to start for the Lilywhites in recent games. The Brazil international has not endured a successful stint in North London following his high-profile move from Everton. The forward has more often than not looked a shadow of himself while donning the Lilywhite jersey.
But the fans are witnessing a new version of Richarlison by the looks of it. The 28-year-old is determined to prove his worth at N17 and prove his critics wrong. His solid performance against PSG last week showed that he could be trusted to lead the line again for Thomas Frank’s first game in charge of the club in the Premier League. And the prolific forward managed to showcase why he was trusted by the Danish tactician.
The ex-Everton star managed to get on the scoresheet not once, but twice against Burnley. His first goal was pure striker’s instinct as he volleyed the ball home from close range. However, it is his second goal that made the headlines and deservedly so. The Brazilian managed to score a scissor kick from inside the box, and it is fair to say that we already have a ‘goal of the season’ contender.
Despite being the standout player for Tottenham this season, Richarlison is still facing an uncertain future at N17. It was reported earlier this week that the is being linked with a move away from the North London club to free up space for a new striker. The Lilywhites are interested in signing Brentford star Yoane Wissa, and they can only do so if Richarlison leaves the club. The report also stated that Thomas Frank is keen to reunite with Wissa.
Now, Alasdair Gold has given his two cents on the reports linking the 28-year-old away from N17. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said,
““I saw the talk about Richarlison heading out as well, which kind feels timing-wise horrendous right now. In the past, Spurs would have accepted a bid for him because of his injury issues and availability problems. But right now, he’s playing incredibly well.”
The journalist added,
“And I get bringing Yoane Wissa instead of him. But if I’m Richarlison, then I probably don’t want to go. We’ll see how that evolves. Thomas Frank would love to have Yoane Wissa in his squad. But getting Richarlison out the door? That’s a big call.”
Alasdair Gold revealed that Tottenham would have sold Richarlison earlier in the summer due to his constant injury issues. However, the journalist believes the forward is in red-hot form right now and the Lilywhites cannot afford to lose him. Gold also shared that Thomas Frank is keen to work with Yoane Wissa again, but getting Richarlison out of the door will be a big call. And it is something that is unlikely to happen as the player does not want to leave as well.
With the way Richarlison is playing right now, there should be no questions about his future as he looks set to be a starter under Thomas Frank for the time being. However, we all know that the Brazilian goes through a purple patch every season before fading out and sitting in the side-lines for one reason or another.
