West Bromwich Albion are eyeing a move for Tottenham loanee Jamie Donley

Tottenham Hotspur are just one step away from ending their agonizing trophy drought after securing a place in the Europa League final with a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory over Bodo/Glimt. A win in the final would not only deliver long-awaited silverware but also secure a lucrative Champions League spot for next season, a lifeline for a club that has struggled domestically.

Meanwhile, back in England, Spurs loanee Jamie Donley is attracting attention for his standout performances during a season-long loan with Leyton Orient in League One. The young forward has impressed with his consistency and sharpness, catching the eye of West Bromwich Albion, who are reportedly monitoring his progress closely.

Donley’s rise through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur has been a steady one. The 20-year-old forward signed his first professional contract with the club in January 2022 and made three Premier League appearances during the 2023/24 season. Recognizing his potential, Spurs secured Donley’s future with a contract extension until 2027 before sending him out on loan to Leyton Orient in August 2024.

At Leyton Orient, Donley has made a significant impact in League One, delivering a commendable return of eight goals and ten assists, contributions that played a key role in guiding the Os to a playoff berth, finishing in sixth place. The loan spell has provided Donley with valuable senior football experience, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

According to Birmingham World, West Bromwich Albion have now made an enquiry to Tottenham regarding Donley’s availability. The Baggies, who finished ninth in the Championship, are reportedly keen to explore a potential move for the young forward, whose standout season in League One has elevated his profile considerably.

The Young talent could be sent out on loan another time

West Brom faced a major goal-scoring problem during the 2024/25 Championship season, ending with a total of 57, modest, but not the lowest for a mid-table side. However, their overall inability to convert close matches into wins proved decisive. Five of their ten draws from October to December were goalless, and another three finished 1-1, and while these draws mean they were fairly consistent, they were not sufficient enough to keep them in the play-off picture.

In an effort to remedy this attacking shortfall, the club have activated their search for a forward. Enter Jamie Donley, the 20-year-old Tottenham forward who has become one of the Baggies’ targets after an impressive loan spell at Leyton Orient, where he has managed to make his name but just lacked experience. Donley has already had Premier League minutes, and could offer the finishing ability and creativity that West Brom lacked last season and leave the Baggies with little choice but to make contact with Spurs regarding a potential move.

The 20-year-old could be retained at Spurs to provide squad depth and potentially earn valuable minutes in cup competitions or lower-stakes fixtures. However, if regular first-team football is not on the cards at Tottenham, a move to West Bromwich Albion could be an ideal next step. The Championship side would likely offer Donley the opportunity to play consistently, further honing his skills and maintaining his upward trajectory.

For Spurs, the decision will hinge on whether they believe Donley is ready to contribute immediately or if a continued loan spell could better serve his long-term development. Either way, the forward’s standout season at Leyton Orient has positioned him as a player to watch closely in the coming months.
