West Bromwich Albion officially re-sign Manchester United midfielder

The summer transfer window is coming to a close, with just a matter of weeks remaining before the hive of transfer activity quietens down.

Manchester United have made the transfer window a summer of rebuilding in midfield, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans both making the switch to Old Trafford.

Carlos Baleba looks set to follow them in the coming weeks with reports suggesting that United are close to a deal for the midfielder.

Whilst incomings have helped to improve Manchester United’s squad, a number of outgoings have also taken place this summer.

Goalkeeper pair Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek both left the club, joining Celta Vigo and Middlesbrough respectively. Tyler Fredricson has left the club too as he joins Lausanne-Sport.

Now, midfielder Toby Collyer has also left Manchester United with him joining Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking after signing for the club permanently, to the official West Brom website, Collyer said: “There were a few reasons why I was so keen to return.

“The size of the club is one of them. I also really enjoyed my time here on loan in the first half of last season.

“Another reason was the manager, James Morrison. He was really keen to have me back and that’s all you want in football – a manager who wants you and wants to see you do well.

“As I say, I really enjoyed every second of my loan spell here last season even though I didn’t reach the levels that I wanted to reach. That’s another reason why I wanted to come back here, to show everyone what I’m about and prove to everyone how much of a great player I am.

“I ended up following most of the Albion games in the second part of last season, to be honest. I remember coming back with Hull and getting the runaround.

“Being out on loan makes you grow up. Even though I didn’t have the best loan spells last season, I felt like I grew up and became much more of a man. I felt as though now was the right time to move on and really kick on with my career and I’m glad that I’ll get the chance to do that here.”

Collyer was on loan with West Brom during the first half of last season, making 12 appearances and providing one assist, before joining Hull City for the second half of the campaign.

Having featured in three of Manchester United’s pre-season matches this summer, the midfielder will now enter the Championship with the Baggies.

The 22-year-old could face former United teammate Radek Vitek in the League campaign, with West Bromwich Albion facing Middlesbrough on Saturday 29th August and Saturday 17th April.

One spell has now concluded for Toby Collyer, and another one is just beginning. The midfielder’s latest chapter could be one that tells the start of his career, it could be the one where he makes himself a superstar.

Only time will tell in his pursuit of both of these, however.
