Manchester United have started the 2026/27 season in terrible form.
The Red Devils are on a nine-game winless streak across all competitions and sit 17th in the Premier League after a two-nil loss at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
Michael Carrick had been tipped to be sacked by Manchester United sources following a three-nil home defeat to AFC Bournemouth, but the club’s hierarchy made the decision to back their man – for now.
Their season is already close to failure. It’s hard to see how they recover from this, even as early as November.
While Michael Carrick is safe for now, even self-admittedly after telling the media he expects to remain in charge on Tuesday night against Roma in the Champions League, he will know time is not on his side.
According to The Athletic’s Manchester United reporter Laurie Whitwell on X, United have decided their next steps regarding Carrick’s future.
The Red Devils chose during crisis talks earlier in the week to get to the international break and then make an assessment on their manager.
The verdict that awaits Carrick in the November 9th international period feels inevitable, however.
The club legend who put on a United shirt over 400 times across a 12-year stint during his playing career knows the demands laid out by one of the world’s biggest football clubs. Current form, no matter the circumstances, is unacceptable.
CentreDevils, along with many in the footballing world, tipped the club to sack Carrick recently. It feels like that formal announcement is coming soon.
#MUFC decided on plan to get to international break then make assessment on Michael Carrick following crisis talks this week.
Potential (now realised) loss to Chelsea baked in, presumably.Roma + Aston Villa ahead.
