Which position does versatile Hincapie think is his best spot?

Jakub Kiwior has primarily featured as a centre back during his time at Arsenal, but his performances were less convincing when he was deployed as a left back at the Emirates, despite being left-footed. The Polish defender has since been replaced by Piero Hincapie, who arrived at the club shortly before the close of the transfer window. Arsenal also strengthened their options with Cristhian Mosquera, another defender capable of playing through the middle, ensuring greater squad depth.

Defensive Options and Current Challenges

While having a strong selection of defenders provides reassurance, injuries remain an inevitable part of the game. William Saliba is currently sidelined, which may present an immediate opportunity for Hincapie to establish himself following the international break. Should the manager decide to give him the nod ahead of Mosquera, the Ecuador international could find himself in the starting line-up sooner rather than later.

The question, however, is how Hincapie will be utilised within the team. Known for his adaptability, he has played in more than one defensive role. Yet, when asked directly about his preference on the pitch, he provided clarity on where he feels most assured.

Hincapie on His Best Position

Speaking to Arsenal Media, Hincapie explained his vision for contributing to the club and shared his thoughts on where he excels. He said, “I think I can bring a lot of courage. I do my job well. I want to show my qualities as I’ve been doing for years. I want to give so much for this club. My best position is centre-back. I’ve played many games at full-back as well, but I think I’m best at centre-back. As for my qualities, I’m pacey and I like carrying the ball forward as well as being a leader on the pitch.”

His remarks underline not only his confidence but also his determination to succeed in his favoured role at centre back. Nevertheless, his flexibility to cover at full back could still prove valuable across the season. Arsenal’s defensive depth, with players who can perform in multiple positions, is likely to play a critical role as the campaign progresses. Having a player like Hincapie, who combines pace, composure on the ball, and leadership qualities, offers Arsenal an important asset as they navigate domestic and European competitions.
