Why Is Alphonso Davies Not Playing Tonight for Bayern Munich vs PSG?

The second leg of the Champions League semifinal between Bayern Munich and PSG will be played today at the Allianz Arena.

Arsenal are waiting for the winner to meet them in the Champions League Final in Budapest on May 30, 2026. Bayern Munich are currently losing the tie to PSG after a 5-4 loss last week in the first leg in Paris.

Both teams have changed up their lineups from the first leg, with PSG without Achraf Hakimi and Bayern without Alphonso Davies, who is not in the starting lineup.

Davies is the natural left-back for Bayern Munich and played last week in the first leg against PSG in Paris. Davies played in the first half and was taken off in the second half.

Davies did not suffer an injury as he played for Bayern Munich over the weekend in the Bundesliga against Heidenheim. Davies did not start the match over the weekend but came on in the second half and provided an assist.

Fans expected Davies to start the match after not starting over the weekend, but the Canadian left-back is on the bench, with Konrad Laimer back in the lineup and Josip Stanisic also in the lineup.

Davies is not injured and is on the bench. The Canadian left-back is benched for the second game in a row for Bayern Munich.

Laimer and Stanisic were the full-back pairing in the second half of the first leg against PSG last week, where they conceded two goals and scored two goals.

Manager Vincent Kompany gave a short explanation of the lineup, with the approach that this game will be different from last week's 5-4 loss.

Kompany said, "There is no 'just another game'; every game is different. I have done 23 years at top-level football, so although I'm a coach, there's not many situations I have not seen or experienced. I've had success and failure as well."
