The problem with bringing veteran players to MLS goes hand in hand with their performance.
In some cases, it works out well, as happened with Lionel Messi, but other times it does not, as happened with James Rodríguez.
In any case, the physical condition of these players remains a mystery and a question that circulates week after week.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC currently has Thomas Müller on its roster, but in recent weeks, the German attacker hasn’t been available for MLS matches.
The same situation applies today, as the media continues to question whether the former FC Bayern Munich player will participate in tonight’s clash between the Caps and FC Dallas.
According to reports, the German is listed as questionable because of an illness, which could still allow him to be included in the starting lineup since it is not an injury.
Given that Vancouver Whitecaps currently sits comfortably in third place in the Western Conference, there is little incentive to risk the health of such a key player as Thomas Müller, especially when there is nothing significant at stake.
Resting him in these circumstances is a logical decision.
That is exactly the approach taken by the team that will play tonight as the visiting side at Toyota Stadium.
For that reason, Müller will not participate in tonight’s match due to the illness that has already kept him away from the pitch for at least two weeks.
So far this season, Thomas Müller has played 13 matches across Major League Soccer and the CONCACAF Champions Cup, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
It is worth remembering that, due to his strong performances, the Vancouver Whitecaps reached the MLS Cup final last season, making his absence on the pitch very noticeable whenever he is unavailable.
