Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin is delighted with one current Blues player after he came on as a sub last night.
There was a flurry of goals scored in quick succession for Chelsea last night as they thrashed Ajax 5-1 at Stamford Bridge in what was pretty much a walk in the park for The Blues after the visitors got a player sent off early doors.
Chelsea then went 1-0 up through a Marc Guiu poachers type goal as he justified Chelsea fans calling for him to get a start.
Enzo Maresca had the luxury of being able to make a number of changes at half time and he was able to rest a few of his players for the weekend as well.
One of the players who came on was Tyrique George, for Guiu actually. And he had a superb half out there for the Chelsea.
As cited on X, Nevin was watching the game and he pulled out some praise for George after he came on.
“What a lovely moment for Tyrique George. He thought he was getting real chances at Chelsea and they went and bought two strikers. He thinks that’s him finished, and will be sent out [on loan].
“He comes on, scores a goal and looked really good in that position. Among the others, he looked really good and I am delighted for him.”
I still think the Chelsea academy graduate will be sold or loaned out in the January window. Liam Delap will be back, and George is only going to be playing much less then. He’s not going to be starting on the wings over the current options either. So I still think he goes in January.
