Thomas Frank still has plenty of work to do at Tottenham Hotspur even after securing victory against Brentford.
After struggling to create chances in recent weeks, Spurs were much better offensively against the Bees and totally deserved their win. It was their first home win in the Premier League in months, one that released some pressure off Thomas Frank’s shoulders. Spurs then carried on the momentum into their Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague with an easy 3-0 win at home.
However, Thomas Frank has been attracting a lot of criticism for his pragmatic, slow and pedestrian style of football and inability to churn out positive results in the Premier League in recent weeks. Before the Brentford win, the Lilywhites were on a five-game winless run in all competitions. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the Tottenham board is not pleased with the team’s performances under Thomas Frank.
There is no indication that Spurs are considering sacking the Danish tactician currently, but there is no doubt that there is uncertainty surrounding his future at the club just six months after replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm.
Frank has been under pressure due to his failure to help Tottenham get going after the November international break. Some sections of the fans have already turned on against the 52-year-old, showing their displeasure against him and the team by booing after the Fulham defeat at home last month.
However, talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan thinks the Dane should be given time to build his squad in N17. He feels Frank is a “good manager” and his appointment was the logical choice from the Spurs board after they decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou at the end of last season.
“I think you’ve just got to be giving a bit of time. People are starting to process was it fit was it the right fit he’s [Frank] a decent manager. He’s a good manager, you know the shirt of Tottenham is heavier than the shirt of Brentford,” Simon Jordan said on talkSPORT show.
“But you’ve got to take these incremental steps and there’s logical incremental step. There was one or two managers that I thought were logical for the Spurs situation. Frank being one and Oliver Glasner being the other.
“So, whilst I’m being objective about it, but I think Frank will eventually find his way through the minefield of managing Tottenham Hotspur, get the players that he wants to get them playing the way he wants them to play.”
Frank did a great job at Brentford, guiding the club to promotion and establishing them in the Premier League during his six years. It was his man-management skills, developing players, clear identity and promotion of youth at Brentford that caught the attention of the Tottenham bosses and they decided to hire him as Ange’s replacement in June.
Having committed to a long-term project, the board now must keep supporting the Dane through all highs and lows. The 52-year-old requires time, tools and patience to build a Tottenham squad capable of challenging for major trophies in the future.
