Wolverhampton goalkeeper Rui Patricio conscious after scary collision with teammate

Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat to reigning top-flight champions Liverpool on Monday, but most were talking about the status of Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio following the match.

In the 86th minute of play, Wolverhampton defender Conor Coady accidentally ran his knee into Patricio's head while racing back toward goal to halt a Liverpool attack:

Per ESPN, medical staff treated Patricio on the pitch for roughly 15 minutes as he appeared to be unconscious. Following the match, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo provided a promising update on his goalkeeper.

"We’ve just had an update now. He’s okay, he’s conscious, totally conscious," Nuno told Sky Sports after the match. "He remembers what happened, he’s aware, so he’s okay."

As Oliver Dawnay noted for TalkSport, Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez suffered a fractured skull following an unfortunate and accidental collision in a game against Arsenal this past November. It appears Patricio's situation isn't as serious.

“It was a collision with Coady I think, the knee of Coady on the head," Nuno added.

"But it’s okay, he’s okay. We speak already, so he’s okay. Any situation when it’s a concussion in the head gets all of us worried. But he’s okay. He’s going to recover."
