It is an absolute necessity that Tottenham bring in an attacker in the summer after enduring a tough Premier League campaign. The Lilywhites struggled to perform consistently in domestic competitions, and many key attackers failed to step up in consecutive games under Ange Postecoglou.

Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke also admitted that he found life tough during the initial months at N17 following his switch from Bournemouth. The England international struggled to get going and was non-existent in the final third of the pitch. However, it is fair to say that the 27-year-old found his mojo back in time during the last parts of the campaign, and played a crucial role in helping Spurs win the Europa League.

The same cannot be said about Richarlison though. The Brazil international has just not managed to replicate the form he showed at Everton before making the switch to Tottenham. The fans have also grown frustrated with the striker’s lack of impact on the pitch. The 28-year-old has failed to make the number nine spot his own at N17 and fell down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham face competition to land OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand

Tottenham have endured a slow start to the summer after ending the season on a high. The Lilywhites were busy sorting out the managerial situation at N17, and that has costed the club severely as they have missed out on some of their intended targets for next season.

It was reported earlier that Spurs are willing to add a striker to their ranks in the summer and have shortlisted OGC Nice star Evann Guessand. The Ivory Coast international has endured a fantastic individual campaign with the French club and wants to test himself in a new environment next season.

However, Tottenham have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of the 23-year-old. As per Africafoot, Wolves have put the foot on the pedal and placed an offer for the prolific striker’s services. OGC Nice are looking to recoup £26m for Guessand, and will not accept a penny less. The aforementioned report also suggests that Fenerbahce have also put in their bid for the striker.

It remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides to do now that other clubs have entered the race for Evann Guessand’s signature. The Ivory Coast international will fit in perfectly at N17 under Thomas Frank. So, it is vital for the Lilywhites to ack quick if they want to add the 23-year-old to their ranks for next season.

The OGC Nice striker can play anywhere in the frontline, and has explosive pace to penetrate the defence. Guessand’s direct approach is suited to Thomas Frank’s system as he prefers to operate with a striker that likes to run at the defence from different parts of the pitch. He will not necessarily be a starter under the Dane, but he will be effective as an impact sub against a tiring defence. His positional awareness and high pressing will also be key to recover possession in the final third of the pitch.
