Wolverhampton Wanderers are still searching for their first points in the Premier League this season. After back-to-back defeats, the pressure is mounting on Vítor Pereira’s side, if they don’t want to be drawn into a relegation battle for the third season in a row. The West Midlands outfit face Everton at Molineux and will be hoping to kickstart their season and get the first points on the board, as well as the first league goals. Here is our Wolves predicted lineup.
Since Pereira’s appointment last December, he has stuck to his 3-4-2-1 formation. Against West Ham, there was some rotation in the squad. Sam Johnstone started in goal, with a back three of Santiago Bueno, Emmanuel Agbadou, and Yerson Mosquera.
The midfield four consisted of Rodrigo Gomes, André, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, and Hugo Bueno. Fer López, Jhon Arias, and Hwang Hee-chan made up the forward line.
Wolves have struggled so far. The opening game of the season resulted in a heavy 4-0 loss to Manchester City, followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, marked by a red card for Toti Gomes. Their fortunes improved in the Carabao Cup against West Ham, as Jørgen Strand Larsen netted a four-minute brace to secure a thrilling 3-2 win.
Pereira continues to favour the 3-4-2-1 defensive base, with a focus on quick transition play. The arrival of Arias and López has injected much-needed speed and creativity into the forward line.
Jørgen Strand Larsen is reportedly carrying a minor injury. Pereira has said: “At this moment he is our player, he has a good personality, he is a team player. He is dealing with a small injury, I hope he can play tomorrow”. Wolves don’t have any other injury concerns.
