World Cup 2022 Group E betting guide

This is one of the most competitive groups in this stage of the competition. Germany and Spain are two clubs that definitely have the talent to win it all and the pedigree that is would be far from a surprise.

In a different group, the likes of both Costa Rica and Japan might have had a real shot to qualify but luck was not on their side with the drawing. I am a little lower on Japan than the markets right now. I doubt that comes back to haunt though.

Here is a quick, closer look at this collection of teams.

Group E

  • Costa Rica
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Spain

The Favorites

Germany: +110 to win the group, -800 to qualify
Spain: -110 to win the group, -900 to qualify

Germany is one of the top clubs in the world and in almost any other group they would be the favorite. That might create a buying opportunity.

Ditto for Spain, which is another very strong club. The presence of Germany means we can take one or the other of these powerhouses and not pay a large premium.

Whoever wins the game between these two gets the inside track.

The Contender

Costa Rica: +5000 to win the group, +1000 to qualify

Costa Rica competes well with other quality teams in North and South America. I am not seeing them taking down any of the clubs above but they could beat Japan to steal some points.

That game against Japan is a chance to make some $$.

The Pretender

Japan: +1400 to win the group, +333 to qualify

Japan is usually a feisty side but they are undermanned in terms of talent. It is unlikely that they get more than a draw in this tough group.
