In a few weeks, Wrexham will host Chelsea in Round 5 of the FA Cup. Wrexham's match against Chelsea has been exciting for the Welsh club, as they will host one of the world's biggest teams at the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham are continuing ot build over the last few years and are currently in the EFL Championship, only one league tier below the Premier League.

The Welsh club is 6th in the Championship league table with 51 points and pulled off an important win over the weekend against Ipswich Town at home.

Wrexham defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 at home and is only three points below Ipswich, who are 4th in the league and are 11 points below 2nd-place Middlesbrough, who are in the automatic promotion spots that would send a team to the Premier League next season.

With Wrexham in the range of promotion playoffs for the Premier League, the upcoming FA Cup against Chelsea is seen as a distraction by club legend Mickey Thomas.

Mickey Thomas on Wrexham vs Chelsea in the FA Cup

While Wrexham is having a great season in the Championship, the upcoming FA Cup match against Chelsea in Round 5 of the FA Cup could also be an opportunity for the club to reach other heights.

Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas, a former club striker, thinks the Championship should be the focus as the team has a realistic chance to fight for promotion into the Premier League.

In an interview with BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Thomas spoke about the FA Cup match against Chelsea and said, "Is [the Chelsea tie] a distraction? It is in a way, but it could be a good distraction to keep the momentum going."

Thomas continued and said, "With Chelsea, the build-up and that, it will be slightly a distraction for them. Hopefully, they can focus on the main priority that is getting to that Premier League."

The former Wrexham striker does look forward to the game, suggesting that anything is possible. Thomas said, "It's going to be a great game [vs Chelsea]. And, I said before, they'll say it again, anything can happen in the FA Cup."
