Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke demands that the club sell injury-prone Luke Shaw and sign Brighton fullback Pervis Estupinan. The Red Devils are planning a squad overhaul during the summer transfer window to help Ruben Amorim rejuvenate the club.
Amorim joined United after the sacking of Erik ten Hag, who enjoyed a lot of freedom in the transfer market. However, Ten Hag’s signings failed badly, and the club faced the repercussions of those persistent transfer failures during this season.
Amorim inherited a squad that struggled in all phases of the game, and they continued to fail under the Portuguese. The current squad has not adjusted well to the tactical demands of the former Sporting CP manager throughout this season.
United are 16th in the Premier League, putting all of their hope in the Europa League triumph to salvage something. They cannot afford to have a similar next season, particularly when their arch-rivals Liverpool won the Premier League this season.
Speaking to FastSlots (via Metro), Yorke suggested United sign Estupinan from Brighton to replace Shaw during the summer transfer window. He said:
He [Estupinan] is a great athlete and gets up and down the pitch, he really understands the position and is so mobile. He’s a versatile player and I think United need that energy down the left. Luke Shaw is not the player he used to be with all his injuries and it’s time to move on, United are struggling and maybe it’s down to not moving players on when they should’ve done
At 27 years of age, Estupinan is operating at the prime of his career and has earned a strong reputation. United have signed Patrick Dorgu as the left wing-back under Amorim, who has played regularly for the club since January.
However, Estupinan could solidify the left flank for the Red Devils as competition and a healthy rotation for Dorgu. The 27-year-old has 35 appearances for Brighton in all competitions this season, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Given the nature of the left wing-back position after Dorgu’s signing, United should target other necessary positions first. There are a lot of holes in the team, and they cannot afford to spend frivolously this summer. Amorim needs the club to make a shrewd signing according to the players that he desires, while selling the surplus.
